The Area

Tulach Ard on the Island of Jura is a rural property, an ideal base for lovers of the great outdoors. The Cottage is ideally situated above the main village of Craighouse, only a few minutes walk from the main amenities.

The Isle of Jura is one of a group of islands known as the Southern Inner Hebrides and lies off the west coast of Scotland opposite the south Argyll mainland and Kintyre. Nestled in the Gulf Stream, these islands enjoy a temperate climate with slightley milder winters than average for the rest of the country. Islay, its more famous neighbour, lies to its southwest and Colonsay to its northwest, and can easily be reached by ferry. Although remote and beautifully unspoiled, there are enough facilities on the island to keep you occupied.

Jura Stores, the only shop on the island, is well stocked with a good selection of fresh and frozen food, daily papers and boats for hire. The island's only hotel has a lively bar and serves good food. The Antlers Bistro Restaurant, recently opened for all day food and pre-booked evening meals. If you fancy a spot of cycling, bicycles can be hired from Jura Bike Hire. Jura Distillery produces fine whisky and offers regular tours and whisky to purchase. The Jura Service Point, situated at the northern end of the village, provides computers for general use and is open to the public on weekdays from 9.30am till 1.00pm.

The Property

Tulach Ard on the Island of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland, is a fully equipped, two bedroom property to accommodate four guests with dramatic views of Small Isles Bay and beyond to the Knapdale Peninsula.

Accommodation: All on one level with disabled access throughout, there is a large comfortably furnished lounge with Satellite television, radio and hi-fi with ipod dock with views onto the village and the bay. Fully equipped dining kitchen including fridge/freezer, washing machine and microwave. Master double bedroom with a king-size bed. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with over the bath shower.

The Cottage has a lovely decked area with outdoor furniture where you can sit and take in the view, there is also ample on site parking and a grassed garden area.

Tulach Ard is located on the Isle of Jura, one of the Southern Inner Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland. Arriving in Craighouse from Feolin, directly opposite the shop with the red phone box outside, take a sharp turn left, past the Antlers Bistro, approx 600m up the hill and Tulach Ard is on your right.

The new Jura passenger ferry offers for the first time a direct link to Jura from the mainland. From April - September the service operates between Craighouse and Tayvallich twice daily, 6 days a week, the 12 seater rib takes approx 50mins. Very wise to book beforehand. Caledonian Macbrayne cross regularly from Kennacraig to either Port Ellen or Port Askaig on Islay with a journey time of approx 2hrs. Again booking advisable. Visit calmac.co.uk for timetables and fares, or tel 08000665000
Loganair operate the twice daily service between Glasgow and Islay for Flybe. Flight duration is roughly 30mins. More info can be found at flybe.com
If flying into Islay and onward travel to Jura is required, information on available car hire, and connecting bus timetables can be found at hial.co.uk
Argyll and Bute Council manage the link between Islay and Jura on behalf of ASP Ship Management. The Eileann Diura car ferry crosses approx every hour between 7.35am & 6.30pm Mon-Sat; 8.30am & 6.30pm Sun. A 9.30pm & 11.00pm ferry is pre-bookable if required (not Sundays). If travelling to Jura without a car, Citylink operate a service between Buchanan St Bus Station and Kennacraig,(or to Lochgilphead where a linking service will take you to Tayvallich to connect with the passenger ferry). citylink.co.uk for timetables and fares.
