PROPERTY DETAILS
Laxey is a lovely centre for country walks, vintage transport and a visit to the Lady Isabella - probably the largest working water wheel in the world. Laxey promenade is a few minutes level walk where there is an ice cream shop and children's playground. Although pebbles at high water, a sandy beach and rock pools are uncovered when the tide goes out.
Historic Laxey is situated in a valley between Snaefell Mountain and the sea. The name Laxey comes from the Norse "Lac-saa" meaning salmon river. Old Laxey was once a thriving port and fishing village, now the harbour is full of leisure craft. About 3/4 mile inland lies the main part of the village. It was a development of the mining industry in Victorian times and the Manx Electric Railway line helped bring prosperity through early tourism.
There are a number of pubs in the village, some serving food. A church, craft shops, cafes, a chemist, newsagent/post office, convenience store, fish shop and a petrol station are all situated in the upper part of the village. From here you can take the 100 year old tramway to Ramsey, Douglas or to Snaefell summit. Laxey Glen Gardens, the Great Laxey Wheel and the Mines Railway are all nearby.
Thie yn Droghad at Laxey Harbour Chalets on the Isle of Man is situated in Old Laxey, bordered by the Laxey River overlooking the harbour and promenade. The whole area is backed by mature trees giving a peaceful location from which to enjoy your holiday.Thie yn Droghad is a cosy two bedroom, sleeping four, cedar wood chalet with a totally enclosed private garden making it ideal for families. The chalet is just along the lane from the other chalets and its southerly aspect overlooks the boat park and the river providing lovely views. The chalet has been awarded four stars by the Isle of Man Tourist Board.
The living/dining/kitchen area is one open, light space with views to the garden. Its light wood floor gives a spacious, sunny feel to the area. The bright kitchen is full size with a fridge and freezer. Both bedrooms are ensuite, the double with a full bathroom and the twin has a shower room. With new sandy coloured carpets and decor reflecting its seaside position this is truly a holiday home from home.
A level entry deck gives easy access to the chalet. The private garden that overlooks the boat park and river has table and chairs, plus a gas barbeque area.
