The Area

Property Location: Greta Hall in Keswick, Cumbria was the former home of the Lake Poets, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey. There is a large, utilitarian garden and untamed woodland with river frontage.

Distance from town: The Coleridge Wing at Greta Hall offers unexpected seclusion only five minutes walk from Keswick town centre. Ideal for exploring Skiddaw, Latrigg, Derwentwater and the Borrowdale, Bassenthwaite and Newlands valleys.

Area activities: The Coleridge Wing is a perfect base for walkers, cyclists, families, historians; anyone wanting to relax and enjoy the Lakes.

The Property

The Coleridge Wing is in the oldest part of Greta Hall, covering approximately one third of the main house and extending over two floors. This three bedroom property, which has been awarded four star grading and a green tourism gold award, is able to accommodate six guests.

Accommodation: Elegant sitting room retaining many original features including beautiful cornicing, a bookcase, cast-iron fireplace, huge sash windows and window seats. There is also a TV, DVD, stereo system, squashy sofas and elm dining table. Fully equipped kitchen with breakfast table, large fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Large master bedroom, a stunning Chinese opium bed forms the centrepiece of the room. Please note: this bed is a standard double and has access from one side only. Large double bedroom with sweeping views of the woodland, River Greta, Skiddaw and Latrigg, complete with beautiful king size four-poster bed. The twin room has a beautiful curved window with views of Skiddaw, wooden window shutters and a window seat. Large bathroom with a bath, separate shower and toilet and also a separate toilet with a small hand basin. The wing is furnished with furniture from Indonesia and China and carpets from Afghanistan.

On site there is parking for a maximum of two cars right beside the front door. Although there is no private garden for the Coleridge Wing, there is a small sitting area, with garden furniture just outside the front door. Guests also have complete access to all the grounds.

Dogs are welcome (max. 2) but must be restricted to the kitchen, (there is a baby gate to put across the kitchen door). Please do not let them into any other parts of the accommodation.

Directions

To reach The Coleridge Wing at Greta Hall, Keswick by car from the M6 motorway, exit at Junction 40 and follow the A66 west towards Keswick. Continue along the A66 Keswick by-pass, a dual carriageway. At the roundabout turn left towards Borrowdale and Keswick. Turn left at the T-junction. Go over the River Greta. Continue past the entrance to the Rawnsley Car Park, past the Co-Op and go straight over the mini roundabout. Turn first left into Stanger Street. Continue up the hill to the T-junction at the end of Stanger Street. Turn left onto the private unmade road, 5MPH speed limit - CHILDREN PLAYING. A five bar gate at the end of the road brings you into the grounds.

By public transport - Train to Penrith. Stage Coach buses leave Penrith Rail Station at 15 minutes past each hour, the journey is about 45 mins. Get off the bus at the bus station beside Booths supermarket. Greta Hall is just five minutes walk from here. The owners are happy to come and help you carry your luggage up to Greta Hall.
