The Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Barnoldswick, is ideally located close to both the Lancashire and Yorkshire borders. An unrivalled location for a stunning cruise towards Skipton and the Bingley 5-Rise locks or through the industrial heritage of the Pendle valley. The Leeds Liverpool Canal remains a hidden gem of the waterways. The splendid undulating moorland spreads all around as the canal twists along the contours of the hillside and offers stunning views of the rugged Pennine landscape. Today, the Leeds and Liverpool ranks as one of the most beautiful canals in Great Britain whilst remaining one of the quietest.
You will travel at approximately 3-4 miles per hour and the same applies to the number of locks per hour. The enjoyment from narrowboating comes from meandering along, taking in the scenery and wildlife and of course stopping at the odd pub! Two lovely one week cruises to explore are Pendle and beyond and Bingley and Saltaire.
Narrowboat - Grace moored on the Leeds/Liverpool Canal at Barnoldswick in Lancashire is a luxury, five star rated, 58' narrow boat to accommodate up to four guests.
Grace has a cruiser stern, offering more sociable cruising with flexible four berth accommodation, 1 double (6' 3" x 4') and 2 singles (6' 3" x 2') or 2 doubles all with interior sprung mattresses in fixed bed style. There is also a fully equipped kitchen/dining/lounge area and shower room.
You will be shown your boat, the owners will explain how it works and tell you about the daily checks to be made. You then set off, accompanied by an instructor. At your first lock, you will be shown what to do, and then help you through two more. You will be asked to sign a Handover Certificate to confirm that you're happy with the briefing. Additionally, onboard reference aids and a copy of the Boaters' Handbook will be provided. The Boaters' Handbook is useful pre-holiday reading. She is fully licensed by British Waterways for hire, and insured for third party use.
The owners are contactable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the unlikely event of an emergency.
