Souvigné is a peaceful village hidden in the Charentes between Poitiers and Angoulême. It lies some 14km of the RN10. Within 5km are the shops and amenities of Villefagnan, while the larger town of Ruffec, with its twice-weekly market, its shops and supermarkets, is only 14km away. Essentially, Souvigné offers the traquility of rural France within easy reach of a wide variety of holiday attractions. Cognac, Limoges, Angoulême, Poitiers an La Rochelle can easily be visted in a day. The more immediate vicinity of Souvigné is steeped in places of historical interest, dating from pre-history to the Knights Templar, to the era of Eleanor of Aquitaine, and more recently to the events of the Second World War. Within 3 km there is a 'plan d'eau' which offers swimming, an artificail beach, toilets, shower and picnic area, all free of charge.
Perfect for those seeking the peace and tranquility of rural France, this pretty little farm cottage is set in a courtyard (formerly a farmyard) and has recently been restored to a high standard. On the ground floor the living room is spacious with a traditional French wood stove and is fully furnished. The small, but well equipped, kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave oven, gas cooker, coffee maker, etc. The shower room and toilet are also on this floor. Upstairs the large bedroom has a double and a single bed. In the courtyard, a shaded grassed area with garden furniture and barbeque, provides the ideal setting to enjoy the balmy evenings with a glass of wine and a chat. The English owners live in the courtyard and offer help and advice if required. The gite is ideal for couples. Linen is provided. There is no public transport so a car is essential.
