This attractive cottage, An Taigh Boighreach in Scotland, was originally the church for the small fishing and crofting community of Loch Portain, nine miles from Lochmaddey, the main island village and ferry terminal. The property has marvellous views over the bay and also inland over the Priest's Loch, renowned worldwide for brown trout fishing.
Designated by the Countryside Commission as in an Area of Outstanding Scenic Interest and by Scottish National Heritage as an Area of Special Interest for Flora and Fauna, it is about fifteen minutes drive from one of the island's most attractive, yet peaceful beaches. Excellent for walking, world famous salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing, bird watching and visiting the many nearby islands, including Berneray (Prince Charles' island hideaway). Excellent bird watching is provided at the RSPB reserve at Balranald. Further details about fishing are available on request. Abseiling and a variety of water sports, including diving, can also be arranged on request. A car is essential at this property to fully explore the Island.
An Taigh Boighreach on the Isle of North Uist, Scotland is a charming, two bedroom property to accommodate up to five guests. The Cottage is decorated and furnished to a high standard and equipped with modern appliances. This most attractive Cottage was originally the Church, converted in 1997, retaining period ecclesiastical features.
Accommodation: Open plan lounge/dining room with cast iron feature stove, television, hifi/cd player, dvd player and vcr player. Fully equipped kitchen complete with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and washer/dryer. Shower room with wc. Two attractive bedrooms, one double and one twin, with an additional single folding bed. Small sun porch overlooking the sea, and Lochmaddy in the distance. A cot and highchair are available on request, free of charge, please provide linen for the cot. Pets are most welcome, by prior arrangement. There is an extra charge for peat, if used, for the fire.
On site is a garden area with garden furniture and ample parking.
