Bass Court is located on The Kingston Estate, which is situated in the South Hams, Devon, encompassed by the tranquil surroundings of the beautiful South Devon countryside. As one of the finest surviving examples of early eighteenth century architecture in Britain today, Kingston House and its grounds are packed with history. The house and cottages are rated five stars. The beautifully restored self catering holiday cottages are situated in the 18th century cobbled courtyard.
Bass Court makes an ideal base for exploring this lovely part of Devon with a variety of activities available nearby including sailing, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and carriage driving. Kingston also now offers half price green fees at a range of golf courses within easy reach including Dinnaton, Elfordleigh, Yelverton, Wrangaton, Dartmouth Golf and Country Club and Dainton Park Golf Club.
Bass Court on the Kingston Estate in Devon was converted from an agricultural building, built circa 1650. This charming property is set in a private courtyard with large mullioned windows and, having entered via the stable door, immediately impresses the visitor with its unusual galleried landing. Bass Court has its own Canadian hot tub in an elegantly cedar shingled bath house in the private courtyard.
The extensive ground floor includes a twin bedroom, suitable for the partially disabled with a shower room/toilet. The property has a well proportioned, fully equipped kitchen amply large enough to eat 'en famille' at the oval oak table, china and glass is displayed on the Dartmouth dresser, so called because it was made from the ships timbers of HMS Britannia, a three decked warship moored in the River Dart, which was the home of Dartmouth Naval College before the current building was built in 1905. The sitting room in Bass Court exudes a warmth and character that reflects the age of the building. Cool in the summer months, and snug in the winter with a log burning stove, ideal whatever the weather and season. Upstairs, the low windows, set below the thatched roof and exposed timbers, enhance the sense of history in this cottage designed for six, with three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, the master of which is ensuite. Bass Court also has a private terrace and garden to the west side of the cottage, which overlooks the countryside beyond.
The Kingston Estate is a pet friendly establishment. Pets are charged at £20 each and several dogs are welcome, this includes a free doggie pack on arrival. The estate is perfect for dogs, with fenced gardens, paddocks and a wood for short walks.
On site there is also a lovely indoor exercise pool, sauna, spa, mini gym with multi gym, rowing machine, cross trainer, static bicycle, snooker table for adults and table tennis table, please supply bats and balls.
