There are good local eateries and many more 5 minutes drive away in the market town of Turre. There are miles of beaches at Mojaca Playa and parking is easy next to the beach (not a parking meter in sight!). The adjacent town of Garrucca has a marina and fishing port with a long promenade from which to discover both. Next to us is the Limonares restaurant and bar which is used by local residents much like a clubhouse. The Limonares has a large swimming pool which we access and use via a gate in our garden. Guests have a discounted rate for use of the pool of €20 per person per week.
For golfers there is a 9 hole course less than 500metres away which is very reasonably priced. The course wends it way through the valley with several holes bounded by orange and lemon groves (picking is allowed). The course is continuously being improved and there are plans to extend it to 18 holes soon. Several other fabulous courses lie within 10 - 20 mins drive. Tennis and horse-riding are also available in the valley.
The valley offers great walks with many species of plants and wild birds which seem to attract spotters from all nations. There are said to be wild boar in the valley and electric fences prevent them roaming the golf course, but in four years we have yet to see one.
Part of a small tranquil site of 28 villas in the beautiful, privately owned Cortijo Grande valley, 8 miles from the beach at Mojacar Playa. There are three en-suite double bedrooms, a large lounge with separate dining area, a newly fitted kitchen, air conditioning and satellite T. V. Outside, to the rear there is a barbeque within a tiled patio with lovely views down the valley to the sea. To the front from the lounge patio doors is a secluded garden where we normally breakfast in the sun. For sunbathing, the roof terrace has uninterrupted sun and panoramic views of the magnificent Cortijo Grande valley and the Sierra Cabrera mountains.
Almeria Airport - 40 minutes
From Almeria Airport follow signs for MURCIA. From Alicante airport follow signs to MURCIA until signs for ALMERIA appear. Then follow signs for ALMERIA.
In both cases you are then on the E15/N340. Take exit 520 signposted TURRE / MOJACAR for approx 3kms. After passing over two very narrow bridges look out for entrance gate posts on the right signposted CORTIJO GRANDE. Follow this lane uphill for 3km. At the summit turn left signposted JARDINES DE AGUA.
You have now entered the valley. Zig-zag downhill until the road straightens out then turn left downhill towards "LIMONARES" restaurant. Take the next road left, pass the restaurant (on your right) and 19 Jadine de Agua is the next villa on the right.
